Edwin Lee Passed away of a heart attack at the age of 65. He leaves behind a wife, children and several grandchildren. He was the first Asian American to serve as mayor of the city. He served from 2011 to his death.

London Breed will serve as the mayor. She will be the first African American woman to serve as mayor.

Lee left a legacy of infrastructure improvements, technology a fair wage for his residents and devotion to help curb homelessness in the area.

“It is with profound sadness and terrible grief that we confirm that Mayor Edwin M. Lee passed away on Tuesday, December 12 at 1:11 a.m. at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. Family, friends and colleagues were at his side,” his office said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Anita, his two daughters, Brianna and Tania, and his family."
