My Wife's laptop has two drives an SSD and an HDD. The HDD took a dump so I bought a cheap $50 Seagate SSHDD replacment to throw in her laptop so she didn't have to keep installing things on her 256GB SSD.
The Issue I'm running into is that certain games take a really long time to launch the game.
For example: Child of Light loads perfectly fine but it's not a terribly large game however, Skyrim, Diablo 3, and The Long Dark all take upwards of 4-6 minutes to even get to the title screen.
Things I've done:
- Updated all drivers
- Checked the physical connection to make sure it's snug
- Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
- Downloaded Seagates software to check for errors
- Ran checkdisk for errors
- Monitored the disk transfer speed when the games are first launching and finding that the games are only reading at about 200kb - 1mb which is really slow.
- Downloaded HD Tune to test the disk read speeds but the min was 118mb and max was 130mb so it seems fine there.
- When I tried to launch Diablo 3 it took probably 4 minutes to get to the screen to select your character and once I tried to launch the game it actually took so long that the game timed me out.
- Skyrim took probably 4 min to get to the title screen and another 5 minutes to load up the first sequence of the game.
The Long Dark loaded up the initial screen pretty quick but would then take a good 4-5 minutes to actually get to the title screen to start the game.
I'm really at a loss as where to go. The SSHDD does have a slower RPM speed at 5400 but I don't feel like it should be so slow that it causes a timeout on diablo....My only other thought is that the Sata connection for the hard drive is damaged and is thus causing these issues....Which I hope isn't the case because I can't really repair that considering it's a laptop and there are no other sata connections on the board....
