Hello,

I’ve seen to run into a minor problem. Just built a used system, all components working:

Sabertooth P67 I7 2600K GTX 780ti 8GB DDR3 1866 XMP

Just recently purchased a Sandisk 128GB SSD Plus from Bestbuy, about a week ago, still under return period.

I suspected my SSD was possibly failing due to weird crashes. These issues only happened AFTER multiple overclock fails which I assumed caused a corrupt boot.

Sometimes the system goes straight into recovery (fails ofc) and when I restart it, it boots up normally.

So, my second guess is possibly bad RAM. Ran MEMTEST which turned out with no errors, so I don’t believe it’s that anymore.

Decided to possibly return the SSD and grab another brand so I began removing/transferring files.

Moved my steam library to my second SSD (NVMe, Motherboard doesn’t allow booting from PCIe slot) and noticed some games didn’t make it and weren’t showing up in Steam, but files showed up on the drive/file explorer. Ok moving on I guess..

Ran into my first major issue here, trying to use windows disc clean up. I couldn’t delete any temporary files, about 20GBs that couldn’t be removed. Thought nothing of it, Windows has it quirks.

Navigated to temporary files location using Windows+Run then %temp%.

Manually deleted all files, except Nvidia (running in background error)

Then I noticed a bunch of windows icons were missing, standard no image icon. Couldn’t launch any windows applications like Update, Power settings, etc.

Decided to reboot the system and.. Blamo

System refuses to boot, SSD is detected in Bios but tried using my Windows 7 install disk and CMD bootsect and bootrec commands won’t revive the system.

All it does is boot into Windows recovery, fail and restart. Is this a symptom of a lemon SSD? Did I screw something irreversibly up?

Built and used Windows desktops all my life, never experienced anything quite like this. The only outlier is that I’ve never used a Sandisk SSD before, always Samsung.

Any help would be appreciated. I never backup my desktop, only my MacBook. Lesson learned I guess xD
