I currently have a 2GB R7 260X (old, I know. But have you seen GPU prices lately?) which started artifacting HEAVILY (first in game, then spread to Windows) last night after spending all day playing.
From my experience, this is primarily caused by overheating, and should go away once the card cools down, so I opened the side panel, aimed a desk fan at it and turned it off for a while. When I turned it back on, I was still getting artifacts even during the relatively simple Win10 login animations (temps were in the 30-35°C range).
I realized this means the GPU is on its last leg, so I went against my bargain-hunting spirit and just pulled the trigger on a new GPU. However, I do work, and need usage of my computer during the week or so that the new GPU will take to get here. Is there anything I can do to extend the life of this dying GPU for just one extra week? I am getting heavy, heavy artifacts just typing this post (shearing, stuff appearing out of place, localized color shifts, you get the picture) with only one chrome tab open, and I'm afraid it won't last until the new one gets here.
