My desktop is hardwired to my Spectrum router. Spectrum's control panel detects that there is a cable plugged in, and that cable is plugged into something else. However, under connected devices, my desktop doesn't show up, and I cannot ping 192.168.1.1 on the desktop. Note that I am connected to the internet, just not my router?
Destkop/Ubuntu
- Running 'ifconfig' returns a random ip, no local 192...
- Resetting network configs, as well as inputting my own have no affect (I'm willing to try someone else's instructions as I'm not too sure I did it correctly; no experience.)
- Leaving DHCP to auto connect has no affect
- Running tcpdump shows that its looking for a Frontier network, my old provider (at least I think, again, no experience)
- Going to Whatsmyip's website shows me under a Frontier ISP
- Nmap scan, which shows 192.168.1.9 and 192.168.1.10, thats it
Router/Spectrum
Not a whole lot, not too sure what I can do. Furthermore, the one log system it has is horrible, and it doesn't show any failed assignments. What it does show is that the thing (my desktop) the cable is plugged into is using data at high rates, which I am doing. No errors shown.
Again, it has a connection to the internet, but my router does not detect is as a computer, just a port that is using an internet connection.

edit: I should note that all control panel management is from my laptop, as I can't access the router from my desktop. Also, cable replacement (though I don't think it is) is not a viable option
