About two weeks ago, I built my first PC. I'll post the specs at the bottom for reference.
I'm a total noob, but I watched a bunch of videos and have a few friends that have done it before to help. My first attempt was unsuccessful, I could not get it to post. A couple of my brother's friends, who work in PC hardware support, came over to lend a hand. They said the motherboard's display ports were not working properly, and they were able to get it to post by moving my video card down a slot and connecting the monitor directly into the video card.
So, works fine, which is great. However, it didn't sit well with me that my brand new PC wasn't entirely functional. So I contacted NewEgg, where I bought it, and set up an RMA.
Fast forward to last night, I got the new motherboard and went to install it. I made sure to be extra careful with everything, I even realized last minute that I used a magnetic tipped screwdriver the first time and used a non-magnetic this time. Installed everything fine, just the same as it was before.
No post. When my brother's friend diagnosed the issue the first time, they did so by hearing beeps from the motherboard. I made sure to plug in the speaker for the motherboard, and there are no beeps. I've left it running for several minutes each time to be sure.
So I did what my brother's friends did last week, and moved the video card slot down one, plugged the HDMI directly into the video card's port, and boom, running fine again.
I find it highly unlikely that I would manage to have the exact same issue as the first time, though it's not beeping at all this time. Am I missing something here? I'm getting really frustrated and starting to wish I had just spent more money on a pre-built PC...
I am at work right now and unfortunately not in front of the PC, but I'm hoping to figure out as much as I can during the day so I can try to fix it tonight. Any help is appreciated! Here is the build:
