Hello everyone,
I own a z97p-d3 with an i5 4690k. Decided to overclock for the past few days while following some guides but probably went a bit too fast.
I had reached 4.6Ghz (x46 multiplier) with a Vcore of 1.325, VRIN of 2V and Ring bus voltage of 1.2. Granted those values are probably high but didn't get any outrageous temps (75-80) while running x264 encoding on a loop which ran fine.
I stress tested for a bit, gamed a bit, no problem. Rebooted at the end of the evening and I was greeted with a weird long POST beep, when I tried to access the bios, it was very very sluggish; booting into windows, all animations were suddenly in slowmo. I put all BIOS values to default and now, 1 every 5 times I boot/reboot, I will get those weird symptoms (sluggish BIOS, long POST, slow everything), otherwise if it boots properly, no problem.
I am suspecting the motherboard because prime95 runs without any problem on blend at stock frequencies and voltages.
I am happy to live with it for now and maybe attempt a kinder overclock, but I would like to diagnose what I have done to the hardware.
Would anyone have some tips or advice on what may have happened and how I should go about diagnosing the problem?
Thanks!
