so i built a pc for my buddy about 2 years ago.
asus rogue mark 1 z97 i7 gtx 970
since day 1 weve had issues with the pc randomly blacksreening, tried fresh installs purchased new PSU etc, persisted.
temp fix was basically to turn settings down so the GPU didnt use juice, also would show wavy lines on monitor whenever a fullscreen application was used.
next step is bad GPU right?
last night i went over and helped him install GTX 1070ti, when watching movies etc no lines yay. as soon as he opened overwatch the PC crashed.
so i went home grabbed my spare 650 watt power supply which i currecntly have power an i3 8gb 7970 system, plugged the PSU into his PC, and the same thing happened.
system veiwer would show NVidia driver crashed, sometimes the PC would crash all the way, sometimes it would just black screen and you could hear sound, but it would never come back. twice we had the error come up upon restarting, "Power supply surges detected during the previous power on. ASUS Anti-Surge was triggered to protect system from unstable power supply unit! Press F1 to Run SETUP"
so thinking that it is possible he had 2 bad gpus the 970 and 1070TI, i pulled them out, pulled my PSU out and put his PC back together using just the onboard video.
played overwatch for 30-1h using the onboard just fine.
so i said i would take his 2x gpus to my house plug them into my PC and see if i could replicated the issues.
this morning i have not been able to get the 1070TI to crash on my pc.
this is driving me crazy, cause i worked as a tech for about 2 years and am usually good with this stuff, but im tired of seeing my friend sink money into something that is not fixable.
help.
