Description of problem
http://ift.tt/2pWjbNP was down, so I used Pastebin to share the IP configuration of the problem device described below. I hope that accomplishes what you're looking for. Please let me know if otherwise.
This will be in the context of a typical home network configuration in a condominium/apartment setting...
We are subscribed to Comcast/XFINITY, who provide the modem/router (Arris TG1682G). Connected to the modem/router is a desktop computer via ethernet cable, and then several other devices located throughout the home via Wi-Fi. One device is outside of the effective range of the modem/router, so we configured an extender (Netgear EX6150) to pick up the Wi-Fi signal and then connect to the device via ethernet cable (trying to get as much stability as possible).
Almost daily, the device connected to the extender will lose connection until the modem/router is reset. More specifically, the actual Wi-Fi signal (usually the 5 GHz one) disappears at the time the connection is lost, and won't come back until the modem/router is reset. The 2.4 GHz signal is usually unaffected, but it's not strong enough to reach the extender, and thus goes unnoticed for the most part.
Ideally, I would like to get this out of range device wired, so suggestions based around that notion are welcome. However, I'm not sure if I can do that without having to pay for another cable subscription given the layout/configuration of the condominium. There isn't much flexibility either with relocating the device.
Cause/Steps to recreate the issue
Unfortunately, I can't really fathom any triggers for the outage. It happens at all times of the day, and doesn't seem to be linked to the powering on/off of any devices. After the modem/router is reset, we're usually good for another day or so before the 5 GHz signal disappears. At its worst, the signal will sometimes drop a few hours after a reset.
What I've tried so far to resolve the issue
We've had Comcast/XFINITY technicians come over a couple months ago to check the modem/router and connection at the wall. As expected, they didn't find anything wrong (the problems weren't manifesting at the time of course). The wired desktop computer has a rock-solid connection and is only affected when there is a known network outage.
Tomorrow I plan on bringing the modem/router to a local store and seeing if I can get it replaced since it's still under warranty, just to eliminate the possibility of hardware malfunction more confidently.
Truly appreciate any ventures to guess what might be going on, or any revelations if it's more obvious than I think!
