Non si smette di cercare la verità sulla morte di Giulio Regeni. Per questo ora si vuole mettere a confronto i silenzi della tutor del ricercatore friulano con le testimonianze degli studenti che fra il 2012 e il 2105 hanno svolto analoghe ricerche in Egitto per conto dell'Università di Cambridge.
La procura di Roma ha trasmesso all'autorità giudiziaria del Regno Unito un ordine di rogatoria in cui si chiede l'interrogatorio formale della professoressa Maha Mahfouz Abdel Rahman. La docente fino a ora non ha mai rivelato il vero tema della ricerca, ha omesso dettagli sulle persone che Regeni avrebbe dovuto incontrare e ha sorvolato sui report effettivamente consegnati.
I magistrati hanno anche chiesto di identificare e ascoltare anche tutti gli studenti che l'università inglese ha inviato al Cairo dal 2012 al 2015 sotto il controllo della stessa docente. Gli inquirenti sperano così di riuscire così a dare una risposta alle numerose domande ancora aperte: chi ha scelto il tema della ricerca di Regeni? Chi ha scelto la tutor? Quali erano gli ordini che il giovane friulano doveva eseguire? Qualcuno si è servito di lui? Risposte di fondamentale importanza per ricostruire gli ultimi giorni di Regeni.

In uno degli ultimi incontri Abdallah ha filmato Regeni con il tentativo di incastrarlo, ma il ricercatore gli ha confermato di non aver altro interesse se non quello di portare avanti il proprio lavoro accademico. "L'ho fatto per amore di patria, per il mio Paese, perché Regeni andava in giro facendo domande che riguardavano la sicurezza nazionale", si è sempre giustificato il sindacalista. "Sono convinto che alla fine chiederete scusa a me e ai servizi egiziani per averci accusati della morte del ricercatore".
