I bought a new monitor a couple of months ago and started using it with my desktop (which I hadn't used in a while) and notebook.
As soon as I set everything up, I noticed my desktop case started giving me small electric shocks. First thing I did was make sure everything was grounded (I even checked the extension I was using to see if it removed the ground wire internally, which it didn't). I just dismissed it after everything that could be wrong was ok and took care not to touch my feet on the ground when touching any metallic parts (not the best way to solve things, I guess).
A couple of weeks ago I was playing a little bit and my GPU kind of died: screen went white, sound continued to work normally though (not that bizarre repeating sound of a GPU scream of death). Restarted my computer and was greeted with glitchy blue lines and some alien symbols. After that I just didn't use my desktop because I don't have the time to deal with this at the moment (college is a bitch, y'know).
Today I was using my notebook, connected to the monitor, and got a shock when hooking up my headphones, which have a metallic connector. Once I disconnected the HDMI from the notebook and repeated the procedure, nothing happened.
The monitor is correctly grounded and all of that (externally, at least), and is obviously the cause of the electric shocks I've been getting.
Now, the question is: could this shock (some sort of electric leak?) have killed my GPU through the HDMI?
