I have a Dell Vostro 1540 laptop running windows 7 ultimate. I have had it for over 4.5 years and it has worked perfectly for that time. Recently, because it had slowed down due to less ram, I got the ram upgraded from 2 gb to 4 gb. The mechanic messes up and it killed pixels on my screen and I had to take it to another mechanic to get it repaired and the screen changed. After that, however, I am having issues with bluetooth. On my laptop there is a common switch for wifi and bluetooth - Fn + F2. Pressing this turns on the wifi but it no longer turns on the bluetooth. The bluetooth icon is nowhere to be found in the notifications system tray. Bluetooth radios are not visible in the device manager either. I checked the services. There is only the Bluetooth support service and it is switched on. All my devices are recognising each other except nothing can recognize my laptop and my laptop cannot recognize anything else either. I went to the bluetooth devices, found the icon of my computer, right clicked, went to bluetooth settings and tries to restore them to default. However, I received an error saying the settings could not be saved. So I thought maybe something is wrong with the driver. So i downloaded the latest driver (the drivers were ancient on my lappy) and installed it (The manufacturer is Broadcom and yes, I got the right driver and everything. I triple checked). It had absolutely no effect. I did some more digging and found that my lappy has an optional bluetooth. Now I know, it came with the bluetooth coz it used to work fine for 4 years. So I fiddled around a bit and went to the wireless card proprties and enabled the bluetooth collaboration as well. Nothing. Now I have searched and searched and can't find an answer to the problem. One thing I noticed was that the driver updater (whne I was updating the bluetooth driver) showed that the bluetooth radios were unplugged. It showed the same for some of the USB controllers as well. Well, the USB controllers work fine.However, they have stopped workin for my phone which works perfectly with my other devices. It also showed MT65xx Preloader as unplugged, someother devices as unplugged. It has got me thoroughly confused. Can someone please help me?
