Dopo 24 ore in stato di fermo, il giudice Alfonsina Vega ha scarcerato i tre giornalisti. I giornalisti si trovavano in Venezuela da circa una settimana per realizzare un reportage. Lo scorso 6 ottobre si sono diretti a nord della città di Caracas in compagnia di Medina, un cronista critico di Maduro che scrive sul "Dolar Today", un portale di informazione. L'obiettivo, come ha ricordato Fausto Biloslavo su IlGiornale, era quello di intervistare uno dei capi dei detenuti nel carcere di Aragua, meglio conosciuto come Tocoron. Arrivati al carcere sono stati fermati dagli agenti. I tre sono stati condotti, dopo l'arresto in una zona amministrativa, lontano dal resto dei detenuti comuni. Secondo Sindacato Nazionale dei Lavoratori della Stampa venezuelano, i tre sarebbero stati accusati di aver portato materiale audiovisivo a Tocoron, senza l'autorizzazione. Subito dopo l'arresto un rappresentate del sindacato e un parlamentare hanno visitato i tre detenuti. Nel pomeriggio poi l'udienza che ha segnato la chiusura di questa vicenda con la liberazione dei tre cronisti.
