About a week ago my laptop gave me a popup requesting that I install a critical update for the BIOS. I'd heard in the past that updating your computer's BIOS can cause problems, and I think my computer is out of warranty (not certain, but I've now had it just over a year and a half, and I thought I remember when I getting it thinking that in a year and a half I'd have to be more careful with it, so maybe I was thinking about the warranty).

I've heard about computers completely ceasing to function once you install a BIOS update, and I really would prefer to avoid that happening.

Today, the BIOS update window popped up again. So, does anyone know what the ThinkPad BIOS update version 25.26 does? Is it something important for the computer, or can I survive without it? There's no link to give me more details about it or anything like that. Just "Next" to continue with the update or "Exit." And I didn't find anything about Lenovo BIOS update "version 25.26" online. Bothers me quite a bit.

I'm not incredibly computer savvy, but I don't like installing stuff on my system that I don't know anything about. And I know that when I got the computer it was filled with bloatware, some of which I managed to remove. I really prefer not to install a superfluous BIOS update.

Any guidance available, anyone?
