Hey. Allow me to paste what I sent to MSI (that they failed to resolve and stopped responding after one suggestion)
Hey. I have a H81M-E34 Motherboard and a few days ago I bought new headphones and a new Microphone (separate devices) and updated my Windows 8/8.1 (legit copy) to Windows 10 (64-bit). Everything worked swell until yesterday where the Realtek HD Audio driver basically stopped detecting any audio from my mic (well, it does detect it, but very very barely - I have to scream into the mic right in front of my face at max boost and volume for it to be audible at all whereas before it broke it was loud and clear a considerable distance from my mouth on lower volume)
I already verified it's not a problem with the Mic because 1. other, functional mics stopped working on the PC too and 2. the Mic works on other devices perfectly.
I have already tried:
-Updating the driver
-Rolling back the driver
-Reinstalling the driver
-Downloading the newest version of the driver from the Realtek website, then MSI live update, then the MSI website, then the Realtek website again...
-Updating the BIOS
-Trying MSI fast boot both off and on(that msi tech support poland suggested to me)
-messing around in the realtek hd audio manager (suggestions from the internet like turning off front panel detection etc), I tried every option possible
-unmuting front panel pink input and output in my speaker settings
-plugging in the mic to all the different sockets (front and back panels, even into the green slots)
-Reinstalling Windows 10
-Rolling back the newest Windows 10 update
MSI customer support has so far suggested nothing useful, Microsoft support is just a fucking joke, and I'm not entirely convinced Realtek customer support exists since they haven't responded at all in the few days it's been an issue and their mid 90s looking "best viewed in 800x600 with internet explorer 6.0" website goes to show that it might as well not be there at all.
I spent HOURS of messing with all the different settings and options I could find on the internet and nothing worked at all. Nothing was previously pointing to be a hardware issue but at this point I think it's all I have left.
