Greetings! I was finally ready to dive into the world of Overclocking for the first time, but I've been thwarted by what seems to be a monitor problem a few others have had. I'm hoping someone here knows more details about it.
My System i5-4690k on a Gigabyte GA-Z97N-Gaming 5 Mini ITX with a brand new EVGA 1080Ti Founders. Currently connected to two aging 1080p 60hz displays, one Samsung the other LG. One is plugged directly to HDMI, the other goes through a DisplayPort adapter.
The Problem When I tell windows to Boot to UEFI Settings, it does so, but neither monitor is able to achieve the HDMI 'handshake' at the correct resolution. So all I get is a black screen, indefinitely. I know its actually in the UEFI, because if I press "Esc" and then "Enter", it boots right back to Windows.
The Solution? I've seen other people say this is just an HDMI handshake problem, and to try other monitors or other connection methods - especially VGA. My Samsung monitor ONLY has HDMI, but the LG does have a VGA input. I haven't gotten the adapters I'd need yet to try it, but what should I go through? The 1080Ti has 3 DisplayPorts and 1 HDMI. What gives me the best chance of getting this to handshake properly so I can finally try overclocking?
