I wasn't sure where to put this, but wanted to put it out there. I work for an enterprise software company. One year ago one of our support techs took his own life. He was a great guy, had a nice family, and was a pleasure to work with.
I worked with him a lot over the years and was completely surprised by the news. I don't know why he did it, but I can't help but think his job contributed to the situation.
I partake in some of the support calls as an engineer and I've know the kind of stress and crap our support techs deal with on a daily basis. It's rough and pushes many to quit or to cope with all kinds of vices.
So I encourage anyone who calls support to please offer up some courtesy and patience. These people take hundreds of calls a week. If you feel you need to be more diplomatic then please escalate to the call. Those at fault are the managers and engineers, not customer support.
