The other hosts weren't having her nonsense.
Another day, another conservative panelist on ABC's The View. Senator John McCain's (R-AZ) daughter Meghan McCain debuted Monday as the new conservative co-host for the show.
The issue of Vice President Mike Pence's NFL stunt, in which the vice president stormed out of a game after knowing in advance the players would kneel, was among the day's hot topics.
Instead of focusing on the actual societal problem being protested or the vice president's repulsive behavior, McCain made the issue about herself.
“I’m deeply patriotic, and to me when I thought [my brother] could possibly get blown up in a Humvee in Iraq, it gave me solace," she said. "So, I think, there’s a misunderstanding that I think we can have a conversation about both things while still respecting what the National Anthem and the American flag mean to people like me."
The co-hosts did not agree that NFL players should consider McCain's feelings when deciding whether to protest in defense of black lives.
"People who die for the flag in these wars are also dying and defending the flag so that people like [Colin] Kaepernick and the rest of them can protest,” Joy Behar explained.
Sunny Hostin told McCain that she feared for her own son's safety when he knelt at his school football game due to the Trump administration's insistance on inflaming the issue.
