I have no clue what has been done on my parents' computer, but according to the task manager it is using 100% disk space when I'm only looking at the task manager. I am in shock, as mine only uses 1% disk when i'm browsing reddit, listening to music, and gaming. It also has a bunch of spammy looking programs and tons of shortcuts all over the desktop. It runs like a turtle when it runs at all, and takes what seems like forever just to navigate the settings menu. To start, I removed 86GB of junk from the Recycle Bin. EIGHTY SIX EFFING GIGABYTES. Now the junk is gone, but disk is still 100% in use.
My PC is spic and span, but I'm certainly no IT pro. I'm in over my head here. How can I get this thing to run normally?
Some notes: -My dad has files on the computer he says he would need to back up if a total reinstall is required. -My sisters have installed Steam, Origin, and other stuffs to play games (which my dad blames for the pc's poor performance because nothing is his fault). -The older of my sisters just went off to college and as such no longer uses the pc for games. The younger of them recently got a laptop, so she doesn't use it much either. -The pc is mainly used by my tech-illiterate mother to access work emails and files, and by my father to access bank accounts, pay taxes, etc.
Not sure if it's neccessary, but here are the pc's specs: -i7-3770s cpu @3.1GHz -10GB RAM -Windows 8.1, 64-bit -1.8TB storage IDK the exact model, but it's one of those HP touch screen models with all the guts behind the screen like a Mac.
P.S.: My mom is pleading for the gods of the internet to help fix the computer.
