I've been having this issue for quite a while now but it usually went away without a noticeable effect. My mobo is currently an ASUS P8B75-M LX PLUS, a fairly old, budget board that has a GTX660 on it and an i5 3570K on it. 8 gigs of HyperX blu RAM.
So far the symptoms are:
The biggest one so far - sometimes after a regular cleanup of the insides it won't POST. PWM fans spin at max RPM, but no success beep. Sometimes I may get 1 long beep, 2 short beeps but that's for GPU failure? Or is my GPU wanting to die too? I don't get it. What I usually do is reseat the RAM sticks carefully, sometimes swapping them around until it boots. It's not a good or elegant solution but it worked for some time now. Something very important to note - with any ONE stick in slot A it WILL boot up just fine 95% of the time and work instantly. With one ANY stick in slot B it's fairly unlikely to boot. So there's that - I tried every combo of two sticks, two slots and seems like there's something wrong with the second one. Again, one stick is fine but two are very likely to not boot.
When bumped even slightly the whole thing locks up completely and will never unfreeze, you have to restart - a loose connection somewhere, maybe something is shorting out? I swear I've checked the standoffs, the cables and rerouted them a couple of times, I even got a new case for future upgrades with much better cable management in the backside but it STILL does that. It's actually even easier to trigger now.
Occasional random reboots are happening now and after they happen it boots into symptom one state, no POST, no signal, nothing. Before it would be caused by touching it during cleanups or accidental bumps or something like that but now it's actually getting a lot worse - I left my PC running overnight today and woke up to it being in this state with fans on, no signal, no POST.
A few days ago it just went haywire out of nowhere - it would try to boot but shut down a few seconds later and repeat forever, try to do an automatic windows repair out of nowhere, it ran CHKDSK by itself, and it repeated the whole thing with having to reseat RAM until it boots, obviosly. After it happened it seems to lag a lot more even in simple tasks and takes awkwardly long time to process basic things such as opening websites etc.
After I actually got this corpse of a board to boot I noticed some changes such as my Steam and Skype logins and settings being erased but I feel like that might just have been the newest Windows update that it actually managed to install through 10 random spontaneous reboots.
I'm thinking of replacing this board which clearly is failing (and hopefully my crappy offbrand 650W PSU too) with something more adequte - I don't have money for a modern CPU, RAM and mobo combo right now, but I can afford something used and older for my ancient LGA1155 CPU such as one of the high-end Z77 cards that go fairly cheap now which in theory should look better, have more better RAM slots, fan headers, and not fail like this one and give me some extra time for upgrades without dying.
