Hi there,
So today I woke up, checked my email on the laptop, then went out to lunch, leaving it asleep and off the charger on full charge. When I returned home I found that it did not respond to me pressing the power button, even when connected to its charger.
I have had previous issues with the fan, which has a loose bearing, but those have been manageable by resetting the fan whenever it starts to act up. It's three years old and has been used thoroughly for gaming, but has had no previous issues like this.
The caveat is this: After (over various attempts) attempting to boot without a battery, re-seating the ram, re-seating the SSD, attempting a boot without the SSD, and re-seating the fan/cleaning the fan intake area, and holding the power button down for 1 minute each time I disconnect it, I have discovered that it now will turn itself on briefly and sporadically, sometimes simply lighting up the power button and starting the fan, while other times it reaches the MSI screen. It appears to have no relation to me pressing the button, and occurs roughly once every 15 minutes. I am currently leaving it open and plugged in to observe if the pattern somehow changes over time.
As far as my research tells me, it appears to be a power supply issue, but I'm curious as to how that could have occurred while the laptop was asleep and unplugged over the course of two hours.
As I mentioned in the title, this laptop is an MSI GE60 PL. It is running 1 8gig stick of ram, a 850m Nvidia Graphics card, an i5 Intel CPU, and a 250 gig Samsung SSD. Any help would be appreciated.
