I am currently using a Dell Precision 490 workstation computer, it is pretty old (I bought it used over a year ago) and I thought I may as well try to breathe some new life into it by putting in a new GPU, some new HDDs and installing Linux. The PC works with basically every distribution I've tried (it doesn't matter which distro I use, it will still crash). The PC does work and does play more lightweight titles on Steam with little to no difficulty (CS:GO, TF2, L4D2), even at 1080p.
It is worth noting that I do not play games that often on this computer, I mostly surf the web and use Discord to talk to friends. I am currently running Solus OS as I have found it to be the fastest distro (especially for older computers). The computer crashes at random moments and I sometimes think that cleaning out the dust using a can of compressed air will help, however that only increases the average uptime before it crashes (it currently crashes after a day usually, however it used to crash after around three days).
