Hi guys/gals, just looking for any assistance on different things I can do/check to identify the issue behind the really slow speeds of a friend of mine, as I'm at loss and am the only one of my mates who can do anything identifiable as "tech support".
So my friend has a plan with Telstra on what I believe is an ADSL connection, since he told me it comes through his phone line, with expected speeds of 200-400 KB/s and ping of about ~20ms. After making him run several speed tests both online and in cmd prompt we have found his download is 40KB/s and his ping is ~1500ms. (Should mention the 40KB/s peak is from Steam, as other speed tests would drop). Telstra support has been no help and isn't a very viable option in the short term. He isn't over any data cap, and he has restarted his modem many times. He runs windows 10, doesn't have any torrenting software and uses an Ethernet cable if that helps. (Cable isn't damaged same problem when attempting wifi tests from phone and laptop).
That's about everything I can give information on but if you need him to run tests I'll do my best to explain to him what to do. My best bet is a damaged modem or some other physical error as this issue occurs basically all the time but if you have any suggestions please share them.
