So i had my gaming rig for a bit over 3 years and only thing i ever upgraded was the video card. Went from a 950 to a 1060.

Never had a problem with overheating. This just started 2 days ago. I admit i never actually checked my temps until now but reason i suspected a problem is because my fps during overwatch just suddlenly started dropping for no reason.

Doing a quick google search i read that my cpu might be "Thermal Throttling"

I downloaded "Open Hardware Monitor" and to my surprise my cpu is at 99 degrees. Obviously this isn't good.

I immediately turned off my cpu took off the case and looked for any dust and wiped it off. I dont know much about the inner workings of a cpu(A cousin of mine built it but he lives in another state) So not sure if i can do anything more on my own.

Now what i did notice is that when my cpu is running under my computer desk(which is where it's been all along) it will idle at 99 degrees. However when i place it on it's side on a chair it will go all the down to 65(idle)

Still not the best but alot better then 99. When i game with the tower sitting on the chair it will go back up to around 80 but no where near 99 where it was when it was under my desk.

Any help here?? Im guessing air flow is getting to the cpu as it should. But is it in need of a new cooler or something else?
