I've just bought a Dell Inspiron 13 5000 which has no VGA. I bought this HDMI to VGA adapter - http://ift.tt/2z4uj2v which had good reviews.
I use my laptop in different schools and go around 4 or 5 classrooms a day linking up to the school's projector or interactive whiteboard using VGA. The VGA cables the schools use would typically be pretty long too.
I tried my new laptop and adapter out yesterday and it did work initially, but within 5 minutes it kept losing the signal and so the projector image would cut in and out constantly. The adapter was also quite hot to the touch so I'm not sure if it could have overheated?
I need to get this sorted ASAP and I'm assuming I need a better adapter, but I'm trying to figure out what the problem is before I get a new one in case I encounter the same issue again. Should I be looking at one that takes power from a USB too like this - http://ift.tt/2itS0u7
Is there any possibility the issue could be with my laptop or settings on my laptop? Or would a USB adapter be any better than HDMI? I've seen mention that a better quality i.e. brand and price adapter may be needed but I'm seeing much of the same low cost stuff searching, are there any brands known to be reputable?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
