For starters, I want to clarify. I know how to change launchers. That's not what I'm asking.
I have a Nexus 5x with Android 8.0. while the new os is nice, it's launcher is 2 years old. Half of Oreos new features require the pixel launcher. It supports more widgets, has more icons on the screen at one time etc. I have used Nova prime before but nothing beats a first party launcher so I downloaded an unmodified pixel 2 launcher from apkmirror.
It works fine. I don't have root access (I use Android pay a lot and it won't work if you root) so I didn't install it as a system app. Therefore the slide right for the Google feed won't work. I use that all the time and I feel naked without it.
So I tried to install a modded pixel 2 launcher that adds it in. However because I already have the pixel launcher and the kissed modded version automatically installs over the old one, for some reason the install fails every time.
I have a theory that it's because I deleted the download for the original pixel 2 launcher I downloaded. That's neither here nor there. I want to get rid of my current pixel launcher so I can install the modified one from scratch.
I tried deleting the source files as I mentioned but that didn't do it. I read that in settings>apps>defaults>default home there should be a delete button but I don't have one
What can I do? I could factory reset but that's extreme. I just want to get rid of my current launcher. I'm able to go back to other launchers but so long as this one is installed, I can't install a new one
