Project developers, along with Cedar Fair and the city of Sandusky, have agreed on terms that will allow the forward movement and construction of a $28 million indoor sports center to be built adjacent to the existing Cedar Point Sports Center.  The center is located just a few minutes from Cedar Point, and hosted more tournaments than expected in 2017, its first year of operations.

The current plan is to break ground on the 185,000 square foot building in the spring of 2018, with the center ready to open in the spring of 2019.  The expansion is expected to draw some 70,000 visitors to the area annually, pumping million of dollars into the local community.

Cedar Fair will contribute $5 million to the project, with $23 million coming from the local bed (occupancy) tax - funded in a sense by tourism to further expand the area's tourism.

Cedar Fair has helped develop the new building, along with the existing Sports Force park, to market the amusement park to visitors - offering team holding tournaments at the center discounted admission tickets to Cedar Point.

The large structure will hold 10 basketball courts, which can turn into 20 volleyball courts, a "championship area" with spectator viewing, an indoor walking track for use by the community, an orthopedic and sports medicine facility operated by a local hospital, and more.

Matt Ouimet, who just announced his resignation of Cedar Fair's CEO position, favored the development of the Sports Park as a way to further expand the resort operations of Cedar Point and has spoken in the past of bringing the concept to other parks in the chain.
