Hello, I've just bought an Acer 4k display for use with my SP4 running Windows 10 Education, and it is ever so pretty, but I cannot get it displaying at 4k resolution.
I connected using the provided DVI cable since the only Mini DisplayPort adapter I have is for DVI, and have installed the latest Acer driver for this monitor. When accessing display settings the highest resolution I can choose is just 1920x1080. If it matters, I have the resolution of the SP4 display set to its native 4k 2736x1824.
The DVI -> Mini DisplayPort adapter in use is a white somethingorother we probably purchased from Apple many many moons ago. There is also a DisplayPort cable provided with the monitor but I'd need to purchase an adapter to plug it into the MiniDP on the SP4.
Is this limited resolution likely due to the old DVI -> Mini DisplayPort adapter I am currently using? And if I am to purchase a new adapter capable of transferring 4k data, I presume I am better off getting a DisplayPort -> Mini DisplayPort adapter rather than a DVI -> Mini DisplayPort adapter, right? Finally (sorry for my dumbness!) is there a need to seek out a special fandangled "4k Ready OMG Amazeballs DP -> MiniDP Adapter W0W Shiny" for this purpose, or would any old DP -> MiniDP adapter be 4k-capable and not limit resolution?
Thanks a ton for your help, I hugely appreciate it! I have been snuffling around the internet all frigging afternoon and have not found a clear answer.
